
- Computer Laboratory
- An area of the Professional Development office with computers strictly for faculty/staff use. Each computer includes state-of-the art hardware and software. Professional Development staff are available on appointment basis for individual technology assistance.
- Workshops/Classes
- Learning sessions are offered on a variety of topics throughout the semester. These take place at various times during the day and are offered both on-campus and online. Some classes are available to faculty for reimbursement or column movement credit. Our main professional development topic tracks include: academic advising, academic quality, general interest, interpersonal skills, leadership, management, new employee, PeopleSoft, teaching for learning, technology training, valuing differences, and wellness and safety. Interested participants must register for workshops and classes through the Professional Development website (http://pd.clcillinois.edu/registration.cfm).
- Consultations
- PDC staff will consult with you on ways they can provide customized training to individual departments or cross functional teams. PDC staff are also available to meet one-on-one with any faculty member needing assistance on teaching and learning issues.
- Orientations
- New Full-Time Faculty Orientation takes place the week before the general college orientation week in the fall semester. It is designed to introduce new full-time faculty members to the CLC community, to their expanded role as full-time faculty members, and to our diverse student body.
- New Part-Time Faculty Orientation takes place the Saturday before Faculty/Staff Development Week in both fall and spring semesters. It is a 5 hour session, designed to introduce new part-time faculty to the college and provides an overview of faculty support services and instructional techniques.
- New Employee Orientation is provided for non – faculty full and part time new employees. Over 24 hours of 11 modules have been designed to provide new employees with information that assists them in integrating smoothly into the institutional structure and their jobs.
- Grants
- Professional Development Center Grants are available to both individual faculty members and collaborative groups during both the fall and spring semesters in the form of released teaching time. Projects must focus on enhancing the teaching and learning process at the College of Lake County.
- Institutional Development Grants are funded through the CLC Foundation Office and are available to any full-time employee of the college. Its purpose is to allow the pursuit of imaginative and innovative projects that support the college's mission, goals, and objectives.
- Awards and Recognition
- The SOAR (Staff Outstanding Achievement and Recognition) Award is presented during the fall and spring semester as a way to formally recognize “above and beyond” efforts by Classified and Specialist staff members.
- INNY Award is offered for Instructional Innovation to faculty that recognizes creative and effective teaching by offering the This award is offered in spring to both full- and part-time faculty members in both use of technology and in innovative classroom activities and projects.
- Publications and Other Resources
- We provide a variety of textbooks, publications, journals and audio-visual material to faculty and staff, including electronic links to journals. Print materials may be checked out through the library.
