| Adding Content to Your Blackboard Course Date: Monday, March 15, 2010 Time: 1:00 - 2:00 PM Location: T346 Designed for the Blackboard user that would like to put their content into Blackboard so students can access it 24/7. This session will demonstrate ways to effectively arrange your course content in the Blackboard course management system, and what is the best way to put up your PowerPoint, Word documents, and other handouts from class.

Workplace Safety Date: Monday, March 15, 2010 Time: 1:00-4:30pm Location: L032 This class is designed to help new employees learn their role in maintaining the safety and security of the college facilities. Topics covered in class include Security Issues, Safety Hazards, Fire Response, Medical Emergency Response, information on AED’s, the college Health Center, Campus Police services, and more. Participants will learn how and where to find the necessary information dealing with emergencies, such as a tornado, fire, workplace violence, or medical emergencies. Important phone numbers and room numbers will also be distributed. This information is pertinent to all three campuses. Although geared towards new employees, the session is open to any staff member who may find a refresher class in safety and security helpful.

What Drove the Middle East Conflict and Where Is It Now? Date: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 Time: 12:30-2:30pm Location: T232
This is of general interest for anyone concerned with making sense of the Middle East Conflict and predicting its future direction.
Social Science faculty Mary Price (History) and Ribhi Salhi (Political Science) will jointly share their expertise on this informational session.
Part 1 will cover the Mandate System. Primary sources and strategies for studying Middle Eastern Issues will be introduced with focus on 1900-1930. The Sykes Picot secret agreement of May 1916 and the Versailles Peace Conference of June 1919 will be the foundation from which issues of the conflicts in the Middle East arise.
Part 2 will cover the 30 Years of War. The resulting conflicts will be explained as they led to conflicts involving Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Israel, and Iran. Perspective on issues surrounding the states involved will be explained following their introduction.

Blackboard assignment manager allows students to submit assignments directly to the grade center of their blackboard course when instructors can grade them and leave the student feedback on the assignment.

Microsoft Publisher-Flyers Date: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Time: 1:00-3:00pm Location: L032 Learn how to create brochures, flyers, calendars and award certificates all in one class. You will learn how to create professional looking documents using the helpful wizards. Create a tri-fold brochure while learning more about publication design, including building a design grid using layout guides. You'll also be shown how to create and use text and picture frames within your document, import text from other applications, vibrant background and fill elements, work with WordArt, Design Gallery, and drawing tools to enhance your internal publications.

People are different because of race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, age, sexual orientation, disabilities, and a multitude of other factors that produce this tapestry of our society. Understanding these differences and how they relate to the values we individually bring to work each day is paramount in creating a caring environment at CLC. New employees will explore value differences and develop an understanding as to how they impact our ability to work together. They will gain practical knowledge with supporting communication skills that promote a work environment that is healthy, happy, and productive – a value we all have in common.

Twitter & Facebook – Social Networking Date: Saturday, March 27, 2010 Time: 9am-12pm Location: T217 Have you wondered what the Twitter phenomena is all about? Are you friends on Facebook but you’re not sure what it is? This hands-on workshop will focus on these two social networking tools with live demonstration and hands-on exploration.
