PDC Faculty and Staff Lab

We have 6 lab work stations which include 5 Dell PC computers and one Apple iMac. All of the computers have DVD burners and the following software:

Presentation	Microsoft PowerPoint 2007	Electronic presentations for class or web, easily make handouts
Spreadsheet	Microsoft Excel 2007	Spreadsheets, gradebooks, mathematical functions
Database	Microsoft Access 2007	Crete records, tables, forms for organizing information
Desktop Publishing	Adobe InDesign CS, Microsoft Publisher	Advanced desktop publishing, newsletters, fliers, brochures, pamphlets, etc.
Web Page Editing, Creating and Publishing	Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004	Creating and managing web pages.
Image/Photo Editing	Adobe Photoshop CS, Macromedia Fireworks, Adobe Illustrator CS	Edit or create images for any application. Used primarily in conjunction with scanners.
Internet Browsers	Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer	All are used for viewing/accessing web sites and searching for online information
Internet File Transfer Utility	WS_FTP LE	Transferring files from one computer to another; primarily used for putting web content onto a server.
PDF (Portable Document Format) viewing/creating	Adobe Acrobat 8.0	Allows you to create and view the online documentation and third party reference material that has been saved as PDF files. Good way to allow others to see material on the web without sacrificing format.
Archive Utility (Zip/unzip tool)	PowerArchiver 2000	Used for compressing multiple files into single files for ease of transfer, or extracting large files or groups of files that have been compressed.
CD/DVD Creator/Copier	Ahead Nero	Burning CD-ROMS or DVD-Rs for purposes such as making videos, storing image collections, archiving, etc.

WE have a video editing station with DVD burner and the following software:

Lab Hardware

Hardware	Description/Use
2 - Sony Mavica Digital cameras (using standard 3.5" floppy diskettes)	Available for faculty checout. Allows you to take digital pictures and store them directly to a diskette. See the PDC secretary for checkout.
6 - Canon Flatbed Scanners	Allows you to scan in hard copies of pictures to digital format or make pages of text into PDF files.
Nikon Slide Scanner	Allows you to scan in 35mm slides or negatives to a digital format.
Microphones	Useful for audio recording and Internet videoconferencing.
VCR	Available for digitizing standard VHS clips
Speakers/Headphones	Speakers are integrated into the monitors if there are sound files you need to hear. Headphone jacks are on the lefthand side of the speaker bar on the bottom of the monitor screen.
Color Laser Printer	Provides high quality color printouts. Good for printing scanned images, PowerPoint slides, and documents where it is important that color be distinguished. *NOTE: Please limit use of this printer for instructional purposes ONLY, and please do not use for multiple copies. To access this printer, choose Dell Color Laser 5110cn*.
Black and White Laser Printer	Provides high quality black and white printouts. To access this printer, choose HP LaserJet 2420.
