|Description:||Are you wondering how you can become a more inclusive, sensitive educator here at CLC to all of our students and community members on the gender and sexuality spectrum? Well, our Safe Zone Hybrid Course might be the perfect type of opportunity for you! Past surveys of college and university students, faculty and administrators who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ spectrum (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, etc.) identified that they had experienced harassment and feared for their safety because of discrimination based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity. It is important that as a diverse institution of higher education we create an environment that is conducive to all of our students' needs.
As a means of increasing CLCs commitment to inclusivity and educational opportunity, CLC has actively participated in the national Safe Zone program since the Fall of 2003 semester. The national program represents an effort to address homophobia, heterosexism and transphobia in schools and is intended to provide support for LGBTQ+ students, faculty and staff. The LGBTQ+ Resource Center Safe Zone program identifies safe allies for LGBTQ+ people in an effort to increase students' academic success and retention along with the gender sense of belonging of all of CLCs community members.
We offer a three week Blackboard course and an in-person 3 hour training session including a panel of LGBTQ+ community at CLC. Please contact Shanti Chu at firstname.lastname@example.org for more questions.
In-person Session to be held on Thursday, March 29th from 5-8pm in A013.
